Project Details
Overview
A 4,500 SF lab reorganization project for Codexis to integrate a new industrial-grade lyophilizer into an existing operating lab space in Redwood City. The work required threading new infrastructure into and around an active facility while keeping the surrounding lab operations running.
Scope
New drain lines were routed beneath the existing post-tensioned concrete slab in confined space, requiring careful planning to maintain structural integrity. New process piping was installed throughout the facility to support the lyophilizer. Two dedicated rooftop chillers were added to serve the lyophilizer exclusively, which required reinforcing the roof deck 24 feet overhead to handle the new equipment loads. Structural and seismic upgrades supported the additional weight and operational demands of the tool and chillers, all completed under a phased schedule that kept the lab operational throughout.
Outcome
A fully integrated industrial lyophilizer operational within Codexis's existing facility, supported by dedicated cooling infrastructure and structural upgrades that meet the equipment's weight and operational demands. The phased execution preserved Codexis's ongoing lab operations through every stage of construction.
